Hadith 23: Don’t be fooled by appearances

Anas ibn Malik reports Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

Allah does not look at your bodies and your faces, but He looks at your hearts and your actions.

(Reported by Imam Ahmad, declared Hasan by al-Albani)

I guess this is self explanatory. We all can understand the basic idea behind this hadith. God looks at what is in our hearts and what we do (our actions). Our appearences is of no concern to Him. God thus doesn’t care about your color, lineage, your race and ethinicity. He looks what you believe in your heart and what you do in this world. [Umer Sultan]

  1. SubhanAllah so true, the best thing about Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is that He doesnt care how elite or poor you are, He looks at your taqwa, and subhanAllah i love it when the rich and poor pray shoulder to shoulder- subhanAllah to Islam- the best thing in my life ❤

  2. Thats the Beauty of Islam (if practiced!)

    “Qibla roo ho kay zameen bos hoi qaum-e-Hijaz
    Aik hi saf main kharay ho gai Mahmood-o-Ayaz
    Na koi banda raha na koi banda nawaz” [Allama Iqbal]

    Translation:
    Facing the Ka’aba, the nation of Hijaz went into prostration,
    Mahmood and Ayaz stood shoulder to shoulder
    With distinction of neither a King nor of a slave.
    By Allama Iqbal

    * pardon my translation.

  3. subhanAllah true init 🙂

    awesome sher br. Umer, thanks for sharing.

    And ill write something on this shoulder to shoulder wala scene ik din inshaAllah 🙂

  4. Very true. I think this is another reason why it is so important for humans to avoid passing judgment on each other. Each person has their own relationship with the divine that they express in different ways depending on their culture, background, etc. No one can claim to know what another person’s relationship with the divine should look like.
