Umer Sultan- December 29, 2009 AD/ 11 Muharram, 1431 AH
Today was the Day of Ashura in Pakistan, and as normal the Shia Muslims where having their Tazia in the commemoration of the martyrdom of the Grandson of Prophet Muhammad, Hazrat Imam Hussein ibn Ali (R.A). Despite of Police security, a suicide bomber penetrated the procession, and bombed the innocent people giving death and destruction to thousands of families who lost their loved ones in it. Various parts of Karachi were put on flames by unknown people, and so far officially 32 40 people have passed away (updated on Jan 3rd). No Police Force, No Rangers and no other Government security agency was there to stop the destruction in the immediate aftermath of the suicide bombing.
Recently Pakistan has been under attack by many different groups. Different foreign agencies are operating, extremist and militant groups are targeting under the label “Taliban,” now known as “Pakistani Taliban,” since they have been disowned by The Talibans, which are Afghan Talibans. No one has taken responsibility of these heinous acts. The victims of this attacks were not Shia only but Sunnis too but that doesn’t matter. Who will take responsibility of this crime is something to watch. There might be a banned extremist group like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jaish-e-Muhammad, and some other group, there might be some other group disguised as Taliban (disguised because we don’t know who these Pakistani Taliban really are). There is a possibility that this might be an operation by some agency, or some political element of Pakistan, there might and might and might…
Pakistan has come under attacks many times by certain elements targeting Sunni Muslims or Shia Muslims on specific days in order to create bloody conflicts between two main Muslim sects. All these efforts have been in vain for last 10 years or so. I still remember, when a Shia Mosque was bombed, Sunni Muslims from right across that Shia Mosque, came out to help. It was near Nipa Chowrangi, near McDonalds and infront of the Hayat-ul-Islam Girls College, where Shia Mosque and Sunni Mosque are right in front of each other. The plot was failed, and many other plots like these were failed. People knew who was behind it, why this was happening, and they knew that Shia and Sunni are both Muslims, and they should live together in harmony despite of what certain elements want.
Who ever is behind this- Shia and Sunni Muslims must realize once again that they are one. Differences in opinions and school of thoughts is not division. For the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim state, Sunni and Shia worked together under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Their bond is stronger than these people, who want chaos and civil war in Pakistan is any way possible, realize. I don’t even understand why I am writing this paragraph, because this paragraph should be a common sense, and I feel like it’s just silly, but probably it needs to be mentioned for I don’t know whatever reason.
There are people who have jumped immediately in concluding that this is the act of the Pakistani Taliban. Again, without any evidence no one can say anything, and another question is, what is this so-called Taliban? They are not what The Taliban are, which aim at fighting against foreign troops and the government of Afghanistan in Afghanistan. These real Talibans never wanted to attack Pakistan, so what is this group (Pakistani Taliban), what is their agenda, their objective, their aim, their demands, their organization, their source of income, where are they getting arms from, these sophisticated weaponry from, and many more un-answered questions? Also in these kinds of attacks, Terrorism Experts say we should look for who is getting benefit from these attacks and what is the possible objective of that target.
May Allah have mercy on all those who have lost their lives in these attacks, the people of Pakistan need to stick together and stay away from these politicians who are agitating the public against each other now for their political fortune.
Some more indepth readings on this issue are given below from different perspectives. Read them all, have your own conclusion. But do not get into sectarianism, that is not the character of Pakistanis, this mess has always been foreign sponsored from Iran and Middle East after the Iranian Revolution, which ended many years ago. May Allah show us all patience, persevarence and guidance, unity and trust, ameen.
