Ever wondered what a Brown guy with a Beard is called? This question arose after an incident that took place. Before anything, I know it is a little long post, so please bear with me because it is a very important issue. Also share it with others so that the discussion gets into the other communities!
So few months back my brother and I came to the realization that it is
obligatory wajib (command) on Muslim men to have beard. I know many brothers will jump on me and ask me century old questions, and I will inshallah (God-Willing) address those in some future posts, this one decision changed our outward appearance and taught many different lessons.
Change in our outward appearances resulted in the change of how people perceive us. Different people were asking me questions about why I am not shaving, what does it represent? Is beard the tribal pride or something? Of course there were some Muslim brothers who were supportive of this, many thanks to them for being there and more importantly to Allah Ta’ala for giving me the company of such friends.
I really like when people are eager to learn and they ask me questions. So I was happy that people were asking me questions that they would not ask such questions before but there were some others who resort to passing out judgement.

Today I finished reading the book by Iain Adamson “Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian” published by Elite International Publications in 1989. Before I dive into my thoughts on this book, I would like to present here brief info regarding who Mirza Ghulam Ahmed Qadiani was.
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani
Mirza Ghulam Ahmed Qadiani was born in Qadian, India on February 13th, 1835 (Iain Adamson) or in 1839 or 1840 (Qadianism by Hasan Ali Nadwi). He was a public debator, preacher, and spent most of his youth in debating Christian missionaries and Hindu group Arya Samaj. He defended Islam, became famous in those bad times when Muslims had lost the War of Independence of 1857. Many Islamic Scholars and leaders who participated in the freedom struggle were hanged by the imperial British governemnt and series of political, social and cultural crackdown was undertaken in order to minimze the possible uprising by Indians, especially by Indian Muslims.
In this era of despair, Mirza called himself a reformer (Mujaddid) and then called himself a Promised Messiah. He started preaching that Isa ibn Maryam, Jesus Christ (Peace and Blessing be upon him) had died and that God had sent him as a Promised Messiah to unite all the religions and bring peace to this world. This angered Christians and Muslims both, because both hold the belief in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
When he had enough supporters and financial stability, he declared that instead of inspirations from God, he started receiving revelations from God and that in those revelations God revealed to him that he was a Prophet in Islam. Mirza declared that although Prophet Muhammed (Peace and Blessings be upon him) was the last Messenger of Allah (God) with the final Shar’iah (code/way of life), he is the chosen one- a prophet, a Promised Messiah- and he claimed to affirming to the Sharia of Muhammad without abrogating any thing from the teachings of Muhammad!

Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus son of Mary), peace and blessings be upon him, was born a miraculous birth without a father to a woman named Maryam (Mary), who was a servant of God and a very pious and chaste woman.
Today on December 25, many Christians will be celebrating what it is suppose to be the birth of Jesus Christ in prayers and remembrance. Interesting note on this is that Christians have difference of opinion on the exact date of the birth of Jesus Christ, just like Muslims do regarding the date of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon both of them. What is important for both of the People of the Books is to bring that divine message of these Messengers of God into their lives rather than celebrating their birthdays as cultural or ritual thing.
