The Arab Spring and Americans…….. (via Siraat-e-Mustaqeem)

Another good post giving the so-called Arab Spring a perspective by ‘asqfish.’

I am sitting in the Arabic Class. In addition to the regular students there are many new students who have come to attend a free introductory class to taste the flavor of Arabic and are trying to figure out if it will benefit them.

There are Muslims who are dissatisfied with the twenty-seven translations of the same ayah of the Quran, each one different from the other. They wonder how to learn “Modern Standard Arabic” which is the Arabic of the Quran, and remove the middle man (the translator) between them and their Lord, Allah Subhanawataala.

There are non-Muslims college students who see their future as policy makers of the United States and have wisely come seeking the learning of the language spoken in the richest part of the world. Understanding its complex culture, which is based on the richness of the language and the practice of people based on the commands of the Quran, which is expressed in Modern Standard Arabic. Israel Battles Gaza Flotilla on Two Fronts (via Wallwritings)

Great read on the current situation of the US Boat to Gaza “The Audacity of Hope.”

Israel Battles Gaza Flotilla on Two Fronts By James M. Wall A year ago, the Israeli Defense Force handed Israel one of its worst media defeats in modern history. Israeli commandos, filled with their government’s propaganda that Israel’s security was at stake, landed on the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, ready for battle and determined to keep the ship from breaking Israel’s control over Gaza’s shores. Nine Turkish citizens were killed, one of whom was a Turkish-American. This year Israel took … Read More

Hijabi Muslim Women Protest in Yemen and Azerbaijan for their Rights

Umer Sultan|

Women in Islamic headscarves (Hijab/ Niqab/ Burqa) took streets in Azerbaijan on December 10 and in Yemen on December 14 demanding their rights.

These protests didn’t make it to the headlines of the Western Media, well simply because it doesn’t show the “Oppression” of Islam, it doesn’t fit the grand scheme, the grand scenario, you know what I mean!

Protest in Azerbaijan:

My rant on New York Times “Iran Executes Sunni Rebel Leader” News

I came across this news published by the New York Times “Iran Executes Sunni Rebel Leader” on June 20th, 2010.

This news report is just the most pathetic reporting I have ever noticed so far. I have criticized about some News reporting here and here but this breaks the record of all those posts.

Jundullah is a Terrorist group. If the Iranian government hanged the leader of the Jundullah, why the entire NY Times article did not mention him and the organization to be Terrorist?

Jundullah is accused by Iran and the rightist section of Pakistan to be funded by America. There is no proof of that but the terrorist acts by Jundullah are many and on the basis of which it is considered to be Terrorist organization.

Jundullah mostly targets Iran and Pakistan and sabotages their relationship and that is for a fact. So I am left wondering why the NY Times chose to leave this important fact about the group? Is it because it poses no threat to “The West” and that it does not target NATO forces in the region? I just don’t get the reason.

Even worst, after excluding the fact that Jundullah is a terrorist organization, NY Times article chose to mention that the leader, Abdul-Malik Rigi, is a Sunni. What Mr. A.M.Rigi being Sunni has to do with anything?? Does this information is mentioned because Iran is a Shiite Muslim state? I think so that is precisely the reason. This reasoning of mine gets even stronger if we put it in perspective- A Sunni Rebel leader got executed by the Shiite government and that Jundullah is a group that attacks the government in a province where Sunnis are in minorities in a Shiite dominated State.‘ A lot is wrong with this info “Sunni” ! by putting things in perspective the reasoning becomes clearer.

Jundullah is a threat to the Pak-Iran relationship. Where Jundullah gets fundings from, that is of no concern to me. Based on its terrorist attacks, bombings, target killings and kidnappings of key people, Jundullah is considered and classifies as a Terrorist organization and both- Iran and Pakistan consider it to be so. Rigi being a Sunni is totally irrelevant and mentioning of it shows how ignorant NY Times is that it chose to omit the fact of it being Terrorist and chose to include “Sunni Leader” as an important info!

Great job New York Times and Nazila Fathi.

“US Media and Israel Military, All in the Family” by Alison Weir of If Americans Knew

By Alison Weir, Sabbah Report

[Alison Weir is executive director of If Americans Knew, which provides information and media analysis on Israel-Palestine]

I don't own the Picture

Recent exposés revealing that Ethan Bronner, the New York Times Israel-Palestine bureau chief, has a son in the Israeli military have caused a storm of controversy that continues to swirl and generate further revelations.

Many people find such a sign of family partisanship in an editor covering a foreign conflict troubling especially given the Times’ record of Israel-centric journalism.

Times management at first refused to confirm Bronner’s situation, then refused to comment on it. Finally, public outcry forced Times Public Editor Clark Hoyt to confront the problem in a February 7th column.

After bending over backwards to praise the institution that employs him, Hoyt ultimately opined that Bronner should be re-assigned to a different sphere of reporting to avoid the “appearance” of bias. Times Editor Bill Keller declined to do so, however, instead writing a column calling Bronner’s connections to Israel valuable because they “supply a measure of sophistication about Israel and its adversaries that someone with no connections would lack.”
