What do you call a Brown Guy with a Beard??
If you have read my blog post that I wrote last year on January 11th 2011, then you would know the story and the answer. Not much has changed since then except in the person who was name calling. If you missed it then the link is given at the end.
So this teacher asked me smilingly “Are you from Saudi Arabia?” in a class full with students.
I asked him smilingly “Are you serious, do I look like an Arab? You should know that.”
He responded “I don’t know- Saudia Arabia or Afghanistan.”
Me: “Are you kidding me, just because of the beard.”
Ishmael Khaldi, adviser to Avigdor Lieberman (Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs), was invited to speak at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor Campus.
Here is what happened!
Another good post giving the so-called Arab Spring a perspective by ‘asqfish.’
I am sitting in the Arabic Class. In addition to the regular students there are many new students who have come to attend a free introductory class to taste the flavor of Arabic and are trying to figure out if it will benefit them.
There are Muslims who are dissatisfied with the twenty-seven translations of the same ayah of the Quran, each one different from the other. They wonder how to learn “Modern Standard Arabic” which is the Arabic of the Quran, and remove the middle man (the translator) between them and their Lord, Allah Subhanawataala.
There are non-Muslims college students who see their future as policy makers of the United States and have wisely come seeking the learning of the language spoken in the richest part of the world. Understanding its complex culture, which is based on the richness of the language and the practice of people based on the commands of the Quran, which is expressed in Modern Standard Arabic. A local imam and the executive director of Council of American-Islamic Relations in Southfield has rejected a recent study that says more than 80 percent of mosques in America promote moderate to severe violence.
“The report is a bunch of rubbish” said Dawud Walid of CAIR about the study Continue reading

AnnArbor.com in this Sunday’s print edition included a story of Tunisia’s resent massive public uprising as something of a grand incident of looting. The story focused mainly on riots, looting, prison inmates getting free but the ‘Jasmine Revolution’ was about more important things than these.
For 23 years, Tunisia was ruled by the iron fist regime of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali. Secret agents were in every corner of the country to make sure no Continue reading
Foreign Policy posted this interesting and alarming link at their website. There are few interesting things that I noticed.
On slide 15, it shows that these Radicals are also on Facebook with “200 fans.” Now if you compare this with other Islamic oriented pages on Facebook that are not that famous and are not affiliated with any famous organizations like Productive Muslim, Islamic Studies have many more fans than this. This is one example that it shows that it’s the small group but is highly organized.
Moreover, many of these people are working on their own by listening radical leaders on YouTube and Internet Forums, creating videos and posting on YouTube that are emotional and arouse people to do something against leadership (foreign and domestic!). The ignorance of Islam (limited or no understanding of Islam) combined with zealousy or political/financial situation of the person or his family all contributes to this radicalism.
Ulema (Muslim Religious Scholars) of Islam have always stood against Radicalism and Extremism. If you want to read a book on this subject (especially for Muslims) read “Islamic Awakening between Rejection and Continue reading
So this Pastor Terry Jones in Florida from a church group that was financially and intellectually bankcrupt when announced the “Burn Quran Day” he bacame an instant international figure. Then he called it off to show that he got some leadership! Man got some skills of Public relations…
But lets analyze really quick what just happened by one nut who was blinded in a faith of instant publicity:
– Indonesian President used some harsh language towards US (to appeal its citizens but neverthless).
– Afghans took streets in protest, NATO camp was attacked by mob, a US soldier shot dead an Afghani protestor. All this for total nonesense because of One Nut.
– Mr Imam Feisal Rauf of Cordoba Initiative (aka NYC Cultural Center) according to the Nut Pastor apparently cut a deal with him to move the NYC Cultural Center away from Ground Zero?!?!? Like Seriously !!
– Imam Muhammad Musri, head of the Islamic Society of the Central Florida stood at Pastor Nut’s media conference and said that he feels that the Mosque should not be built near Ground Zero. Interesting because [1st] Its NOT a Mosque, its a freeken Cultural Center. [2nd] A Mosque has been there at that spot for all these years !
– Mr. Nut Pastor Jones can’t even pronounce Imam properly when referring to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf (with whom he said he cut a deal). He kept referring to Imam Feisal Rauf as “Iman.” Its like calling Pastor a “Paster” Continue reading
I was excited when I came to know that a movie came out on Prince of Persia. I remember that game from my childhood, the setting & characters of the game which looked like eastern…like Persian. The trailer raised my eyebrows. I read few links and understood the problem. I tried explaining some of my friends about my problem with these two movies and so I have decided to post 4 of those reads at my blog.

Gene Luen Yang: Why I Won’t be Watching The Last Airbender Movie by Gene Luen Yang
So spend some time in reading this post and decide for yourself. I was waiting for these movies, but you know I am not dying for it…it’s not worthit. I am proud for who I am by the grace of Allah and if someone thinks that is not good enough then heck I don’t care.
Below are few links about the growing tension between Israel and Iran. While the propaganda machine and the neo-con Right is using all it can to engage the United States in the war with Iran, presumably to defend itself from Iran (actually defending Israel from Iran); we need to have an awareness of this Cat and Mouse Game.
Israeli recipe for dealing with the world “If force doesn’t work, use some more force.” by Israel Shamir [Veterans Today]
…Israelis armed, supplied and trained Kurdish terrorists for many years; they have turned the Iraqi Kurdistan into their territory with many Israeli businessmen doing their affairs waiting for Kirkuk oil to flow to Haifa as it did in the days of colonial British rule. The Kurds remained a hidden tool of Israel in the region for many years; its activation now shows that Israel still wants to teach Turks a lesson…
Regime Change in Iran: The Fantacy that will not die by William O. Beeman [New American Media]
…The answer that has emerged over four decades in the regime change circles is clearly that “Islam (read Iran) is against the United States.” It is from that point that the fantasizing begins: How to destroy this anti-American Continue reading
