“Muslim Girl- The Plight of Sisters” by Awil Jama

Here is another poem by my friend Awil Jama. Many people liked his previous poem that I shared at my blog as a part of the Reviving the Muslim Youth series, which is here “Somali Boy.”

Much of what Awil Jama says here can be equally said about the plight of the Muslim Brother. However, I do hope that he would write another poem only on the Plight of the brothers, inshallah.

Hijabi Muslim Women Protest in Yemen and Azerbaijan for their Rights

Umer Sultan|

Women in Islamic headscarves (Hijab/ Niqab/ Burqa) took streets in Azerbaijan on December 10 and in Yemen on December 14 demanding their rights.

These protests didn’t make it to the headlines of the Western Media, well simply because it doesn’t show the “Oppression” of Islam, it doesn’t fit the grand scheme, the grand scenario, you know what I mean!

Protest in Azerbaijan:

Video: Woman Judge in Shariah Court

Shariah is a path towards straight path, towards the path of God. Here Judge Khulood Al-Faqih because of the outdated judicial system, uses Shariah to give rulings. People are quite happy about it, no wonder this video didn’t show up at Fox News, or CNN  or anyother news medium. Check it out!

Having a woman as a judge is permissible according to the Fiqh (Jurisprudence) of Imam Abu Hanifa, one of the 4 great Imams of Islam.

Indeed the role of women in Islam is misunderstood by Many! *Especially by Muslims themselves

Why its about Men? Men doing this and Men doing that! No let me correct myself. Why its about Muslim Men? Muslim Men doing this and Muslim Men doing that! Why its about Muslim Men oppressing Muslim Women? Why its about Muslim Men segregating Muslim Women?
Why some people being Muslims want to portray it as a Gender issue? Why they measure Islam on the weights of the Secular Western Tradition? Why these “Progressive” Muslims or “Feminist” Muslims fail to see that the Muslim Women wants to pray separate! Muslim Women do not want men to Continue reading

Hadith 19: Prophet Raced With His Wife

Sayyidah Aisha related to us:“(Once) I was accompanying the Messenger of Allah on a journey and we ran a race, and I won. Afterwards, when I had grown fat, we, (again), competed (with each-other) in a race, and this time, he won. Upon it, the Prophet remarked: “Now, we quit.” {Abu Dawood}Commentary: Indeed this is a pointer to those who have no place for such a thing in their lives.[Maulana Muhammad Manzoor Nomani. Ma’ariful Hadith, Volume 3, Pg. … Read More

NY Time’s Frustrated Strivers!!

By Umer Sultan

The New York Times, America’s one of the largest national Newspaper in print and online, published a biography of a militant Umar Kundi yesterday (Feb 27th 2010) under this title “Frustrated Strivers in Pakistan Turn to Jihad.”

When I read a title, I didn’t even think that it will be a biography of a militant. In fact for some naive reason I thought the NY Times, this prestigious newspaper, would have gone deep into the issue of militancy and had tried to show the confusion amongst the Pakistani youth.

Picture- The 1st Shock

Obnoxious

I was shocked when I saw the first picture and read the caption of it. This picture has nothing to do with anything with the entire article first of all. Second, why a niqabi (face covered) and hijabi (head covered dressed modestly) women is shown? What has that got to do with Extremism or Jihad?
