Brown Guy + Beard = Terrorist

What do you call a Brown Guy with a Beard??

If you have read my blog post that I wrote last year on January 11th 2011, then you would know the story and the answer. Not much has changed since then except in the person who was name calling. If you missed it then the link is given at the end.

I asked him smilingly “Are you serious, do I look like an Arab? You should know that.”

He responded “I don’t know- Saudia Arabia or Afghanistan.

Me: “Are you kidding me, just because of the beard.”

The Arab Spring and Americans…….. (via Siraat-e-Mustaqeem)

Another good post giving the so-called Arab Spring a perspective by ‘asqfish.’

I am sitting in the Arabic Class. In addition to the regular students there are many new students who have come to attend a free introductory class to taste the flavor of Arabic and are trying to figure out if it will benefit them.

There are Muslims who are dissatisfied with the twenty-seven translations of the same ayah of the Quran, each one different from the other. They wonder how to learn “Modern Standard Arabic” which is the Arabic of the Quran, and remove the middle man (the translator) between them and their Lord, Allah Subhanawataala.

There are non-Muslims college students who see their future as policy makers of the United States and have wisely come seeking the learning of the language spoken in the richest part of the world. Understanding its complex culture, which is based on the richness of the language and the practice of people based on the commands of the Quran, which is expressed in Modern Standard Arabic. One Stop Guide for an Introductory Understanding of Islam

Since my High School years (in America), I have come across many people especially Muslims, who had a complete lack of understanding of Islam, although they never would admit to this. People of other faith, I understand, but Muslims not knowing A-B-C of Islam this is what I am talking about.

You might be thinking how arrogant I am to say such a thing. You might think who do I think I am that I can judge people and their understanding. Continue reading

Getting out of the Sex Trade and Modern Slavery

“These stories are of success, struggles, and an eye opener for us all.”

The Talk of the Nation of the NPR News aired two programs today “Getting off the Streets and Out of the Sex Trade” and “Human Trafficking in U.S.”

As a Muslim I always looked badly towards Prostitution and Human Trafficking but I never realized how severe the things are. Talks on such issues are almost nonexistent in the Muslim communities, at least the ones that I have been in contact.

These stories are of success, struggles, and an eye opener for us all.

Why Am I Posting This??
