What do you call a Brown Guy with a Beard??
If you have read my blog post that I wrote last year on January 11th 2011, then you would know the story and the answer. Not much has changed since then except in the person who was name calling. If you missed it then the link is given at the end.
So this teacher asked me smilingly “Are you from Saudi Arabia?” in a class full with students.
I asked him smilingly “Are you serious, do I look like an Arab? You should know that.”
He responded “I don’t know- Saudia Arabia or Afghanistan.”
Me: “Are you kidding me, just because of the beard.”
Ishmael Khaldi, adviser to Avigdor Lieberman (Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs), was invited to speak at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor Campus.
Here is what happened!

The sanctity of Ramadan is meaningless for them. The open doors of Heavens are meaningless for them. Seeking forgiveness for the past shortfalls and asking Allah for guidance is meaningless for them. What is meaningful for them, however, is to shed blood of their Muslim brothers because Allah had created them into different languages and ethnicity.
I am not talking about Syria in which the government forces are shooting down the Muslims praying in the Mosques. I am talking about the situation in Karachi in which over 300+ people have died and counting, where the city has been hijacked by mainly two secularist-ethnic nationalist parties-ANP- Awami National Party (Pathan) and MQM- formerly Muhajir Qaumi Movement (Muhajir). Target killings are the norm in the city, and the sins of the dead & their families is that they belong to one of the two ethnic groups- Pathan or Muhajir, or they happened to be the bystanders, where as, the PPP-Pakistan Peoples Party, is having a low-profile in the conflict.
Pathan are Pashto speaking people from the North Western region of Pakistan neighboring Afghanistan. Muhajir are Urdu speaking people who migrated from India to Pakistan. This insanity is also part of the Global War on Terror. The MQM that claims to uphold the rights of Muhajir has Continue reading
I was interviewed by the Editor of the Student Union section of the Voice of America, Jessica Stahl, about the Muslim life on U.S. Colleges and Universities.
Two different posts were covered on this topic. Please take a moment and Continue reading
Ever wondered what a Brown guy with a Beard is called? This question arose after an incident that took place. Before anything, I know it is a little long post, so please bear with me because it is a very important issue. Also share it with others so that the discussion gets into the other communities!
So few months back my brother and I came to the realization that it is
obligatory wajib (command) on Muslim men to have beard. I know many brothers will jump on me and ask me century old questions, and I will inshallah (God-Willing) address those in some future posts, this one decision changed our outward appearance and taught many different lessons.
Change in our outward appearances resulted in the change of how people perceive us. Different people were asking me questions about why I am not shaving, what does it represent? Is beard the tribal pride or something? Of course there were some Muslim brothers who were supportive of this, many thanks to them for being there and more importantly to Allah Ta’ala for giving me the company of such friends.
I really like when people are eager to learn and they ask me questions. So I was happy that people were asking me questions that they would not ask such questions before but there were some others who resort to passing out judgement.

Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian, was sentenced on Monday 21st by the court in Nankana district to be hanged for giving blasphemous statement in the province of Punjab in Pakistan.
The story of this mother of 5 goes somewhat like this:
I have to say this before I say anything else, that this post and what I am about to say will offend many of you (Muslims)! And frankly I really don’t care what you think of me and how offended you get! I just don’t care…
I have said this to some people I know, and mostlty I haven’t receieved a much positive respond. I have been told to stay positive, that I should think positive, that what I say (coming below) creates ill feeling towards other Muslims and that I am being pessimistic, or that I should not judge others. I Strongly Disagree!
So here is what I have to say:
The Silence of Muslims on the issue of Kashmir is just pathetic. There are Human beings dying there, living under occupation for 63 years. How come Continue reading
So this Pastor Terry Jones in Florida from a church group that was financially and intellectually bankcrupt when announced the “Burn Quran Day” he bacame an instant international figure. Then he called it off to show that he got some leadership! Man got some skills of Public relations…
But lets analyze really quick what just happened by one nut who was blinded in a faith of instant publicity:
– Indonesian President used some harsh language towards US (to appeal its citizens but neverthless).
– Afghans took streets in protest, NATO camp was attacked by mob, a US soldier shot dead an Afghani protestor. All this for total nonesense because of One Nut.
– Mr Imam Feisal Rauf of Cordoba Initiative (aka NYC Cultural Center) according to the Nut Pastor apparently cut a deal with him to move the NYC Cultural Center away from Ground Zero?!?!? Like Seriously !!
– Imam Muhammad Musri, head of the Islamic Society of the Central Florida stood at Pastor Nut’s media conference and said that he feels that the Mosque should not be built near Ground Zero. Interesting because [1st] Its NOT a Mosque, its a freeken Cultural Center. [2nd] A Mosque has been there at that spot for all these years !
– Mr. Nut Pastor Jones can’t even pronounce Imam properly when referring to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf (with whom he said he cut a deal). He kept referring to Imam Feisal Rauf as “Iman.” Its like calling Pastor a “Paster” Continue reading

My 2-Part of a series of confronting Islamophobia in America
By Edward E. Curtis
Rick Lazio, the gubernatorial candidate from Suffolk County, doesn’t like it. Sarah Palin, though not exactly a New Yorker, has resoundingly “refudiated” it. More importantly, plenty of ordinary citizens vocally oppose the establishment of a Muslim community center and mosque near the World Trade Center site.
But no matter how offensive their presence may be to some people, Muslims have always been a part of lower Manhattan‘s past. In fact, Islam in New York began near Ground Zero. From an historical perspective, there could hardly be a better place for a mosque.
One of the first Arab-American enclaves in New York City was located on Washington St. in lower Manhattan – the very area in which the World Trade Center was later built. Founded by Arabic-speaking Christians and Muslims from Ottoman Syria in the 1880s, it was called Little Syria.
The heart of Little Syria was full of outdoor cafes where non-Arab visitors sometimes gawked at men smoking hookahs and trading gossip about the Ottoman Empire. In a 1903 article, the New York Times called the Continue reading
