Khalifah ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab was truly a genius. He was a natural leader and had a great political acumen. Following are few examples to briefly explain this point.
Khalifah ‘Umar had established an inquiry commission to ensure that his governors and other state officials abide by the rules and do not transgress a tiny bit. The Chief Inquirer was Continue reading

The National Public Radio (NPR news) ran a program on the Talk of the Nation about the Results of the Simulated Israeli Strike on Iran by the Saban Center for Middle East Policy (SCMEP), studied by Kenneth Pollack.
The official details of the simulation can be read here. The NPR program can be listen/ read here.
In brief there were 3 players of the simulation–America, Israel & Iran. The SCMEP had the players reflecting the currect policies of the US and Israeli governments. The simulation time was 8 days, in which Israel attacked the Nuclear facility of Iran without asking or notifying the United States in advance. After the attacks, the US was told by the Israel that this favor has been done by Israel and that US should help Israel in regards to this. The United States was first angry and then tried to keep Israel aside from the scene and tried to control the situation from getting any worse.
Iran, on the other hand, responded by attacking Israel, while Israel started getting hit my rockets from Lebanon and Gaza. Israel had to send a major land military offensive in order to invade Lebanon and Gaza to stop the rockets. By the end of the simulation (8th day) Iran was mining the Straight of Hormuz, Israel was in the middle of the major land offensive, Saudi Arabia got hit by Iran as well (they didn’t believe that Saudi Arabia had nothing to do with this), Syria was supporting Iran but didn’t know what to do of this sudden nuclear exchange…

Below is an article published at Muslim Observor. This signing of new accord between the state of Syria and Iran shows that both countries will resist the United States pressure on their sovereignty. It also throws the very much popular rhetoric by these so called experts in the US media that the division between Shia and Sunnis, 2 major muslim groups, are so deep that they will keep fighting. It is interesting to note that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (“shia”) met with the exiled leader of Hamas “sunni”, the popular Palestinian Islamic resistence movement.
I don’t think trying to isolate Iran and having sanctions on it would change anything. Iran is a signitory of the Nuclear Prolifiration Treaty, and thus it has a right to have a nuclear power for energy. The UN should deal with Iran, not the US.

DAMASCUS: The presidents of Syria and Iran signed a visa-scrapping accord on Thursday, signaling even closer ties and brushing aside United States efforts to drive a wedge between the two allies.
“I am surprised by their call to keep a distance between the countries … when they raise the issue of stability and peace in the Middle East, and all the other beautiful principles,” Syrian President Bashar Assad told a news conference in Damascus with his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
“We need to further reinforce relations if the true objective is stability. We do not want others to give us lessons on our region, our history,” the Syrian president said.

Swissinfo surveys the headlines in Switzerland Monday morning and finds that the press there universally condemned and expressed dismay at Sunday’s vote. Editors expressed consternation at the inevitable tarnishing of Switzerland’s image and worried about the consequences. Will there be boycotts? Sanctions? Appeals to the European Court of Human Rights?
I can anticipate right now arguments to excuse this outbreak of bigotry in the Alps that will be advanced by our own fringe Right, of Neoconservatives and those who think, without daring saying it, that “white culture” is superior to all other world civilizations and deserves to dominate or wipe the others out.
